Runaway Truck Wheel Injures Four SDA Academy Students; Witnesses Receive Counselling

Four students from the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Academy are recovering from injuries sustained when a loose truck wheel struck them along the Choc Hig hway on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. as students waited for transportation home. According to school principal Vidal Philip, some students managed to evade the oncoming wheel, but others, unaware of the impending danger, were unable to escape despite frantic warnings from their peers. The sudden impact left many shaken, with several students visibly distressed at the scene.

The injured students, all in their final year preparing for CXC examinations, suffered moderate to severe injuries. While two have since been discharged from medical care, they remain under observation, and the other two continue to receive treatment for their conditions. Philip expressed particular concern for the students’ well-being, noting the emotional toll the accident has taken on them during a critical academic period.

In response to the traumatic event, the school has mobilized five professional counselors to provide emotional support for affected students and eyewitnesses. Additionally, pastoral services have been arranged to aid in the recovery process. The school administration remains in close contact with the families of the injured students and has pledged continued support as they navigate this challenging time.

Medical evaluations are ongoing to assess the full extent of the students’ injuries, and authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
